Description

Tender, savory parcels filled with comforting flavors of ground beef, rice, and zesty tomato sauce, perfect for a cozy meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 cup tomato soup
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the cabbage leaves in boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until pliable.
  3. In a bowl, mix the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Take a blanched cabbage leaf and place a spoonful of the meat mixture at the base. Roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides as you roll.
  5. Place the rolled cabbage seam side down in a baking dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix crushed tomatoes, tomato soup, sugar, and vinegar. Pour this sauce over the cabbage rolls, ensuring they’re well coated.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 2 hours. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to allow the rolls to brown slightly.
  8. Serve warm with the sauce spooned over the top, and enjoy!

Notes

These cabbage rolls can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking. Customize with your favorite fillings.
