Description
A heartwarming dessert that combines tender baked apples, warm spices, and a buttery cobbler topping, perfect for autumn gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups sliced apples
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Mix the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in a large bowl until well combined. Pour this mixture into your prepared baking dish.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl to combine the dry ingredients.
- Cream together the softened butter and sugar in a separate bowl until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until well incorporated.
- Add the flour mixture gradually to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. The batter should be thick.
- Pour the batter evenly over the apple mixture, allowing some filling to peek through.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Can be made ahead; store the apple mixture and batter separately in the fridge and combine before baking.
