Description

This Cozy Dutch Apple Pie captures the warmth and nostalgia of fall with its sweet and tart apples, warm spices, and golden, flaky crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 to 8 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Combine the sliced apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour in a large bowl. Toss gently to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan.
  4. Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
  5. Prepare a second crust to cover the pie, ensuring to cut slits for steam to escape.
  6. If desired, brush the top crust with a beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes, until the apples are tender and the crust is golden.
  8. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

For a twist, try caramel sauce, a crisp topping, or mix in chopped nuts with the apple filling.
