A warm and comforting dish featuring beef patties in rich gravy topped with caramelized onions, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
- 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
- 1 Egg (Beaten)
- 1 Onion (Finely diced)
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black pepper
- 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted)
- 3 tbsp All-purpose flour (For thickening gravy)
- 2 cups Beef broth (Low sodium preferred)
- 1 cup Heavy cream
- 1 Onion (Sliced)
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
Instructions
- Mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until just combined.
- Form the mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties. Let them rest while you prepare the gravy base.
- Brown the patties in an oven-safe skillet for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden. Remove and set aside.
- Melt the butter in the same skillet and sauté the sliced onions until soft and slightly caramelized.
- Stir in the flour, cooking for about 2 minutes, then whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream until smooth and thickened slightly.
- Nestle the browned patties into the rich gravy, ensuring they’re well-covered. Cover tightly.
- Bake in the oven at 350°F for 45 minutes. Then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes to let the top get golden.
- Remove from the oven and let rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
