Description

A cozy delight that fills your home with a rich buttery aroma, these French salted butter cookies are simple to make and perfect for sharing.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • To taste, flaky sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Beat until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Scoop tablespoons of dough and roll them into balls. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Flatten each ball slightly and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Dough can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. For decorative cookies, roll into a log and slice before baking.
