A comforting Chicken Fried Chicken recipe served with creamy gravy, perfect for family dinners.

- 6–8 thin-sliced chicken breasts
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbs hot sauce
- Oil for frying
- 1/4 cup reserved oil from frying
- 1/3 cup flour (for gravy)
- 2 cups milk
- Additional salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan on the stove until it reaches 325°F.
- Whisk together 2 cups of flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce.
- Dredge each chicken breast in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg mixture, and return to flour mixture.
- Carefully place each piece of chicken into the hot oil and fry for 3-5 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Add 1/4 cup reserved oil to a large pan over medium-high heat and stir in 1/3 cup flour.
- Slowly whisk in milk until thickened, add salt and pepper to taste.
- Pour gravy over individual chicken servings before serving.
Notes
Leftovers can be kept in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
