Description

A comforting casserole with layers of seasoned beef, creamy sauce, and melted cheese, perfect for family dinners.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 56 medium russet potatoes (thinly sliced, about 1/8 inch)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella (optional, for extra meltiness)
  • 1 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for greasing the dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook ground beef (or turkey) and chopped onion in a skillet over medium heat until browned; drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  4. Whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk in a mixing bowl to create the sauce.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
  6. Spread half of the beef mixture over potatoes.
  7. Pour half of the creamy sauce over beef and sprinkle with 1 cup of cheddar cheese.
  8. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, beef, and sauce, and finish with cheddar and mozzarella.
  9. Bake covered for 45 minutes.
  10. Bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  11. Serve after resting for 5 minutes.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
